Supervisory Visit to the Midwifery Coordinator Alliance Team (MCAT) Meeting on "Postpartum Hemorrhage Management" at the Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department

On Wednesday, September 16, 2026, Mrs. Nguon Sophap, President of the National Midwives Council, attended the Midwifery Coordinator Alliance Team (MCAT) meeting focused on "Postpartum Hemorrhage Management." The meeting was organized by the Maternal and Child Health Division of Phnom Penh and held at the Phnom Penh Municipal Health Department.

Objectives of Attendance:

  1. Review the coordination and organization of the MCAT meeting.

  2. Examine facilitation approaches and problem-solving strategies for operational challenges encountered in the field.

  3. Assess the technical master trainers on postpartum hemorrhage management guidelines.

  4. Evaluate participants, comprising practicing midwives from CPA1 and CPA3 health facilities.

Key Recommendations Provided by the President:

  1. Identify Clinical Factors for Uterine Atony: Investigate causes of uterine atony (Tone) beyond standard textbook guidelines, bringing practical field findings and hands-on observations forward for shared peer discussions.

  2. Strengthen Emergency Hemostatic Skills: Reinforce proficiency in external aortic compression (abdominal aortic compression) to ensure optimal hemostatic efficacy.

  3. Practice in Real-World Clinical Settings: Train and simulate aortic compression directly on routine delivery beds, acknowledging that everyday labor room environments present physical constraints not encountered in formal training halls.

  4. Build Team Endurance and Ergonomic Stability: Practice compression techniques as a coordinated team, focusing on proper body posture, balance, and maintaining continuous, effective pressure for a minimum of 20 minutes.

"A midwife's hands hold two lives at once — cradling a newborn onto the warm chest of a mother.

Together, let us fulfill this noble mission with the highest standards of professional ethics."
